I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. Reading to me is fun, interesting and something relaxing to do. The library inspires me to read more widely and more often! Recently, I’ve come to the realization that the library is not only a great place to read, but also a place to explore different worlds. When life is challenging or when I feel judged, the library always provides comfort. There is nothing like finding a comfortable spot and getting lost in a book. For a short period, the outside world does not exist. I am in another time, in another place, or on another planet. I would call it a mental escape.
Creating a space that is judgment-free has always been high on my list of ways to make a library welcoming, comfortable, and safe. When I was a child, I visited a public library in a park near our house daily after school and inhaled the smells, the silence, and all that was represented in the space—knowledge, freedom, and predictability. I still remember the friendly smile of the librarian lady which made me feel at home.
As I was ascending the stairs of the Central Library and Archive Center, located almost near to the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences, I knew it will probably be a safe zone to me during the current years. A place in which I can simply ignore the bitteess of the daily routine and wander through the book aisles in search of knowledge and joy.
